Up to 48,000 lbs per tandem axle is allowed if the combination has at least 9 axles with a steer axle followed by four consecutive 8-foot-wide (standard) tandem axles; up to 52,800 lbs is allowed with 10-foot-wide axles and 4 tires per axle; up to 60,000 lbs with 10-foot-wide axles and 8 tires per axle (the same tiers apply to single-trip permits). Common annual permit uses include Extended Weight (up to 105,500 lbs for a divisible load) and Overwidth (for a single, non-divisible load).
Trip & Fuel Permits
A valid trip permit from another state is honored in Oregon, provided proof of insurance is kept in the vehicle. A Heavy Motor Vehicle Trip Permit ($43 for 10 consecutive days) must be obtained prior to operation. A Heavy Trailer Trip Permit ($10 for 10 consecutive days) allows use of an unregistered trailer with a loaded weight over 8,000 lbs, or a fixed-load or special-use trailer. A Temporary Pass is issued when the weight-mile tax is validated upfront and combined GVW exceeds 26,000 lbs, limited to 5 or more per account for one unit or 35 in a rolling 12-month period.

Running Hours & Holiday Restrictions
Travel is generally permitted 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset, 7 days a week, from Labor Day to Memorial Day. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Saturday travel is allowed only until noon and none on Sunday, except loads not exceeding 14' wide may travel weekend daytime hours on the Interstate west of the Cascade summit and on any authorized highway east of it. Loads up to 10' wide on "green" routes and up to 12' wide on Interstates are allowed to travel at night. Local restrictions apply in Portland, Eugene, Grants Pass, and other areas.
Flags, Lights & Banners
End-load lights are required when visibility is under 500 feet due to darkness or reduced visibility, with the outermost extremities of a wide load illuminated at night (amber forward/intermediate side markers, red rearward markers). Widths over 10' on a two-lane highway (or 12' on a multi-lane highway) require amber warning lights on the cab, unless traveling with a minimum of two pilot cars. "Oversize Load" signs are required on the front of the tractor and rear of the load or trailer for wide loads and vehicles/loads over 80' long — 7' wide, 18" high, black 10-inch letters on a yellow background. Red or fluorescent orange flags at least 18" square are required at the outermost extremity during daylight hours.
Tire Regulations
Check tire inflation pressure with a gauge (PSI). Minimum tread depth is 2/32 inch. Tire chains are required when conditions demand it — snow, ice, or other inclement weather with SNOW ZONE signs posted.
